Local Racing Legend Masten Gregory Exhibit
June 8, 2015
This press release highlighted the life and legacy of Masten Gregory. The museum unveiled a new exhibit in early June dedicated to the hometown hero who won the 1965 24 Hours of LeMans race in 1965. This was the first press release I had ever written. I received information about Gregory from the museum's Executive Director along with the details of the exhibit and I wrote the press release following APA style.
Kansas City Automotive Museum's 2nd Annual People's Choice Car Show
June 11, 2015
The 2nd Annual People's Car Show is one of the biggest fundraisers for the museuma and this was my second press release I wrote. I built on my experience from my first press release and included more general information about the museum, along with specific details about the car show. I then sent it to all of the museum's media contacts, and the event was announced on June 12th on KCTV 5's Friday nightly news. KCTV 5's evening newscast has one of the biggest reaches in Kansas City.
Kansas City Automotive Museum's 1st Anniversary Weekend
June 18, 2015
This press release highlights the events that were held at the museum on the first anniversary weekend, which also coincided with Father's Day. The events included a sock hop on Friday, a family fun day on Saturday, and a special event on Sunday for Father's Day.
The press release was put into KCTV 5's Friday, June 19th evening newscast as a part of the events segment. KCTV 5's evening newscast has one of the biggest reaches in Kansas City.
I used the lessons and experience I gained in my Media Writing class to write a radio advertisement about the museum’s annual car show for a radio station in Kansas City. The radio station had a reach of approximately 600,000 people, and the reader was read on the radio every day for a week around lunch time.
I wrote in broadcast style, and to use the appropriate font and size for a radio reader. The advertisement slot was 30 seconds long, and the advertisement I wrote fit the slot perfectly.
